No recovery Disks

Hi all,
Im looking at my friends PC and he is running a shop bought pre-configured box with a full peripherals package on Win ME.
He says that he didnt recieve any recovery disks with the machine and it now needs a wipe. Normally I would just do an install of the bare OS and add the drivers I need but Im reluctant to do this on his machine due to the time involved. I have heard that these types of machines have an image of the original config stored on a partition on the hard drive but I cant work out how you would instigate the recovery.

Any Ideas??

Is it a particular brand (Packard Bell, Tiny, Dell, HP ...)?

If so, you might be able to get info & download recovery disks from their web site.

Its an e-machine e-tower bought from PC world. I cant find anything on the website you suggested.

I dont think you can download recovery disks from the manufacturer, Microsoft would not allow that, and I dont think there is a partition just for restoring but you can easily find out by booting the computer with a disk and then run fdisk. But I agree with ayjaycee, there is probably more information at the manufactures website.

what about win me's system restore functions?
just skip back to a known good setting and create the rescue disk from there.
