Hi, I am using Word 2000, but because Word 97 deals with tables better I loaded it onto my computer. However, I do not see any pull down menu or toolbar when I open Word 97. Can someone tell me why and how to fix this? When I did this and went back into Word 2000 it popped up a box saying it was installing something and then opened. Perhaps the two programs are feeding off of each other files causing this problem. Any ideas/suggestions? Does this have to do with the normal.dot file?
Thanks!

Possibly, you are in full-screen mode, if you are not displaying any menus or toolbars. Hit the ESC key and see if everything goes back to normal.

Thanks. I tried that. I also don't see any other toolbars on the screen. I can double-click the "REC" which is shadowed in the bottom status bar and that has toolbar options. I can then create a useful toolbar, which would solve the missing toolbar, but it doesn't then solve the missing pull-down menus. Any clues? I tried deleting the normal.dot file and that didn't help.

When I loaded Word 97 on my computer (I already have Word 2K on my computer) I put it in a different drive. Interestingly though when I double-click the normal.dot in that directory (the Word97 one) it still opens up Word 2000. Any other ideas?

Thanks. I checked out the site. Did as it said. Now my computer is squeeky clean. I don't quite see how they relate to this problem but I did it anyway. I did also try deleting the normal.dot file. It doesn't change anything.

As I mentioned, I was able to create a toolbar. Therefore, I created a toolbar with the same commands as the pulldown menu. This works to some degree.

I tried your alt-v, u without the toolbars that I created and it didn't do anything. Alt doesn't pull up any of the pulldown menus.

HOWEVER, with the toolbar that I did create, I tried Alt-v, u (View/Full Screen) and that immediately crashed the program. I tried this a couple of times and it does it every time.

All right, any new ideas? This sounds technical, kind of like a registry problem or a program problem. Is there any problem with being able to have both Word 97 and Word 2000 on one computer at the same time?

Thanks.

Dear Susan,
Thanks. I checked out the article and discovered that adding the "/a" suffix to the command line in my icon into Word 97 did the trick. Thank you for your assistance.
