I can't seem to get my new system I am building to post. I have read the FAQ on this matter and have those answers. My question is, I have windows 98 installed on the HD I am using. I have installed 1 gig of PC2100 on the new MB. Could the fact I have so much RAM installed and that I have 98 installed, be what is keeping my system from posting?

No, the OS on your hard drive won't be recognised until POST has passed. How far into POST do you get? Do you actually get anything on the screen. If not it could be you graphics card.
Make sure that everything is correctly seated. Do you get any beep messages. If so find out what they mean from the BIOS manufactures website.

I get nothing. Everything is seated correctly as far as I can tell. The monitor was working fine. The HD LED and CDRom LED come on for about 5 seconds. I can hear the CDRom start to rotate, then they both just shut down. The MB is getting power fine, all the fans are spinning. The CDRom will opena nd clsoe fine, just no post. I re-seated the VC a couple of times. It's all good name brand stuff. The RAM was Apcaer, which was rated good on NewEgg the ones I got. Apacer isn't recommended for PC2700 or 3200, but I am only using 2100, so I don't know if that was an issue. I connected the speaker, but I'm not really sure that the case speaker is working, so I was going to just hook an old set of speakers I have up to the MB sound connector. Try to at least get a squeak or something out of it.

You won't get anything from you speakers connected to your sound card because you don't have any drivers installed.
you really need to make sure that your case speaker is working & correctly connected. This does sound like the graphics card to me because you should get some sort of video signal first. You could try instaling another graphics card that you know works. I would really suggest that you get that speaker working though. POST beep codes are very useful in diagnosing problems correctly.

OK, I'll slap my old dino VC into the board and see what happens. If it springs to life at least I know what the dealw as. Thanks for the tip. Incidentally, I don't think that particular tip is in the FAQ on posting issues.

No case speaker, but a set of headphones worked with the onboard sound option. The voice message from the MB was failed CPU test. Anyone have experience with this.

Thanks, jumpers are default, so maybe Asus will have words of wisdom in regards to that. Checked the CPU yesterday and it was fine. Gonna try remounting the board to make sure it is seated correct, and then check my cables one more time.
