hi all, i suspect this is a problem with the master browser but i have no clue how to rectify it, when users go to browse the network though network neibourhood then the domain name (kent) the following error occours:

KENT is not accessible.

the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

all stations are windows 2000 pro and the 1 domain controller is 2000 server.

any ideas:

Can the workstations log onto the domain?
Ensure that the Computer Browser service is started and set to Automatic on the clients (should be by default.)
Run-->services.msc then locate the Computer Browser service.

at the client, go to a dos box and type ipconfig /flushdns and then go back and check your network icon. The command will have flushed out the cached dns records on the client to get rid of stale entries.

ive now added the dns flush to the users login scripts and they can now browse the network, thanks for that, but it still takes a while for the stations to appear in the list though Marc Turner

Have you set up DNS correctly? Clients pointing only to server, server only pointing towards itself?

I have to say thats a bodge rather a solution! If you need to do this whenever somebody logs on - there is a problem with DNS resolution which will rear its head again. Lets us know how DNS/DHCP is setup on your network etc.

Ash.

I would say the same things: be sure that you have a properly configured DNS.
Also, have a look with BrowserMonitor from resource kit (browmon.exe).
Have you logon problems too? or just when you are browsing nethood? Gia Betiu
