Hi all

this is driving me mad hope someone can see the problem because i cant.

i have just installed 2000 server for use as a web server, it is sitting behind my coyote linux router/firewall, the rest of the network can see the internet ok. i can ping the router/firewall from the 200 server box ok, but internet explorer will not access the internet just says finding site.

lan is using 192.x.x.x
2000 server is static at 192.168.0.101
just cant understand why i cant use the internet from the server box.

thanks for anybodys time in advance

dns is enabled with the addresse of 127.0.0.1 on the server, i have tried removing it but makes no difference. i have had 2000 server before as a server on my network and used the internet from it ok to update patches. but am unsure about dns (should have listened more at college) wins in not enabled

sorry if i am not suppling enough info

What IP address do the rest of your PC's show for Primary DNS?

Do an IPCONFIG /all on a PC that connects successfully to the Internet and compare it to an IPCONFIG /all of your new server. What differences do you see?

Do you intend to use this new Server as a DNS server in your network? If so, you will have to enable Forwarding to your ISP's DNS servers to get name resolution for addresses that are off your local network.

DNS server can't access the Internet

Symptoms: You have a domain controller with DNS. The server can ping router and any public IPs. However, the server can't open any web sites.
Resolution: Check the server DNS settings, especially make sure the server points to the internal DNS instead of the ISP DNS or 172.0.0.1.
