I manage several independant networks, some with Windows 2003/Exchange 2003, some with SBS 2003. A few of these servers will not list any Exchange updates when I go to the Microsoft Windows Update site. I am specifically interested in the IMF updates, but I am noticing that no Exchange Updates are evere listed when I check. All other operating system updates are properly listed so I do not see a problem with Windows Update itself. It just seems as though Windows Update does not recognize that Exchange is installed. The only method I can successfully use to scan for needed updates is with the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer. When I run MBSA, it will detect which Exchange updates are missing and point me to the manual download pages, but this method will not check for IMF updates. Each of these servers otherwise work fine. I have had absolutly no luck searching for an answer. I can't seem to find any relevant information out there. I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Look at my FAQ: faq955-6503

I provide a script to configure the server to get IMF updates via Windows Update.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Markdmac,
Thanks for the info, but this does not address my issue. I already have the ContentFilterState registry value properly set. My problem is that even with this registry value in place, my server will not list IMF nor any other Exchange updates when I run Windows Update.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I ask an obvious question -

are you sure you're going to the Microsoft Update site, which shows app updates as well as Windows updates, and not the Windows Update site, which just shows Windows updates?

58sniper,
I am going the usual route of Start, Programs, Windows Update, which takes me to update.microsoft.com. I then choose the custom option so I can pick and choose which updates I want to install. On most of my servers, all updates, including Exchange updates are listed for me to choose. On my problm servers, I see Windows 2003 updates, but nothing for Exchange.

Thanks.

I suspect the "working" machines end up at
when you're presented with the Express and Custom options, while "non-working" machines end up at

Notice the microsoftupdate vs windowsupdate

58sniper,
You did it! You are absolutly correct! I followed the first of your two links and the custom option does show the Exchange downloads including IMF. I am very gratefull to you and I feel a bit ashamed for not cathing this myself.

If you could further clarify for me; why would two sbs2003 servers that were newly installed a few months apart, both fully updated with all the lastest packs and updates have shortcuts that point to different sites?

Thanks very much.

When you first build a server, or any Windows based PC, you go to the windowsupdate site.

From there, you can click on the Microsoft Update link, and go to that site. Once you do, you'll always end up there. This is what I do when I build a box.
