No Desktop icons

Im using Win Me and I wanted to upgrade to 2000, I started the update and when 2000 began to run the setup i recived a lot of "Disk I/O Error 00200" On the screen, so I cancelled the install and tried to go back to Me and now I have no desktop icons the log on menu appers, and I also get the start music but no desk top icons, Is there a way to start explorer. Also when I used fdisk to see the partition info is says Non-dos. I have tried to reinstall Me and it reports that the drive is
Fat 12, One more thing does anyone know of somewhere to download a Virus scan for dos so I can Check the drive for a virus

It would be hard if not impossible to get your ME up and running. Your time would be better spent upgrading to 2000. Its possible that either your cd drive is defective, or the 2000 disk itself might be defective. That is likely the cause of those I/O errors. It is also possible your hard drive might be bad, so keep this in mind.

I suggest you try the 2000 setup again, delete the partition (which will wipe out everything), create a new one, format the drive using NTFS, then run through the setup again, see what happens.

F-Prot has a Dos antivirus which is free, I use it in conjunction with av-disk to make a bootable floppy set that will run in dos mode, has saved me several times.
