Hi all,

Any ideas on why a machine won't fully boot from the XP CD after upgrading 'board and CPU? It hangs before it gets to the repair option screen.

I've tried 2 CDs and three drives in all pri/sec/master/slave combinations.

I've just tried setting it in another PC to run the first part of the install but it gives a blue screen 'STOP: 0x0000007B' error when replaced on the new board to continue the repair.

Next stage is to flash the BIOS.

Any ideas what may cause this? Or do I just RMA it?

Thanks,

Andy.

Thanks Greg,

Yes, that link explains the STOP error (device driver issues because the first part of the install had been on another 'board).

Any ideas why it doesn't boot fully from an XP CD (I tried a original and an SP2)?

Cheers,

Andy.

I may have the answer - quote from the makers site regarding the latest Bios update - "Change default setting of memory from DDR 200 to SPD to solve the install XP fail issue occurred only.".

Here's hoping....

Andy.

What I would suggest is to try Barts PE available from
This will give you a limited version of XP that runs directly from a CD.

If you cannot get this to boot correctly then It would suggest hardware problems.

also gives good advice for all Stop errors, scan down the list and you will find yours.

Hi Greg,

Still the same after the Bios upgrade, hangs on "Setup is starting Windows". I reckon it's an RMA now.

I tried a PE boot CD earlier at the clients premises; same hang....

I'll install it on my spare ASUS 'board to get them running for the morning. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Cheers,

Andy.

Thanks for the links, Greg, I just pulled the SCSI card (the only 'extra' in the box) and Setup is underway!

You can have a star for keeping me awake!

Thanks,

Andy.

Same for you, Linney, good reading!

Andy.
