I'm having a problem with my server. I always encounter the WIndows file protection message, it asks for the Windows 2000 Server Installer, but after inserting it in the drive nothing happens. It still keeps on popping up.

And just this week, my drive C has 10GB of disk space but only less than 500MB is free, only programs are installed there, how come it is using a large disk space. I have cleared the temporary folders. What else do i need to remove?

please help...thanks in advance

Have you scanned your hard drive for any viruses?

I'd also do an advanced file search, and find any file that is over (say) 10MBs in size... cause something has to be filling it.

yes, it was infected before by Nimda virus, but was cleaned already. i've scanned it once again, but found no virus...but there are still lots of files with EML extensions...

You should spend some time looking around on your server, so you can find where is that folder or file, or group of files affecting it. Someone could access your server from the net, and put files on it without you noticing. A+, MCP, CCNA

On my 2K server with Exchange 2K, I was filling up fast. I noticed 500MB log files piling up, burning up space very fast (one or two every minute).

It turned out that they were transaction logs caused by my virus software scanning the (exchsrvr) folder. I had to exclude that folder and some other things to prevent this.

I know you may not have a similar setup, but have you looked into the possibility of this type of file being created?

You'll probably need to take a good look at what exactly is installed and where before you will be able to notice it with your eye.

The eml extensions are the remains of the Nimda virus. Your best bet is to rebuild that server if possible.
Also check for .dmp files under /winnt.

Yes I do aggree that someone could be accessing your server and using it to host there crap at your expence. Hope this Helps
