Hello everyone I need help big time I've been struggling with this for weeks now.

I'm trying to set up a VPN server using windows 2000 server but can't get it to work.

Here's the setup..

ADSL Modem (public IP) = 81.138.17.74
Belkin broadband router = 192.168.2.1
Local area connection 1 = 192.168.2.2
Local area connection 2 = 192.168.2.3

The ADSL modem connects to the router and the router to 192.168.2.2 If i set up routing and remote access I lose internet connectivity through this port. This is restored by connecting 192.168.2.3 to the router.

I have configured the router to place 192.168.2.2 in the DMZ to prevent the belkin firewall from blocking VPN traffic.

I have followed instructions on setting up Routing and remote access. I select 192.168.2.2 during this process and allow access to all guests.

However when I attempt to connect from the remote client (win 2k pro) I get no answer (error 678). I can ping the public IP address (81.138.17.74) from the client but cannot seem to connect with the VPN server. I get the feeling that I am probably doing something really stupid but can't figure out what it is. Do I need to do something to link the public IP 81.138.17.74 with the VPN server? What is my VPN servers IP address? Is it the local area connection that I set it up on i.e 192.168.2.2?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Error 678: There was not answer.

Resolution:
1) you are dialing the wrong number.
2) make sure you have good connection.
3) If using VPN, make sure the port 1723 and IP Protocol 47 (GRE) are opened.
