I have both Access 2000 and Access 97.

I now have a new computer and need both versions of Access on my PC asI have an Access 97 application which won't convert to 2000.

However, i installed 200 first and then 97, but Access 97 gives me a dialog which states...

Microsoft Access can't start becuase there is no license for it on this machine.

I have seen this before and know there is a downloadable fix somewhere. However, i cant find it now.

(I have tried uninstalling 2000 then re-installing etc)

Can anyone help?

MS advise you should always load versions in release sequence. However if the machine has EVER had A2000 on it then you have to fix a font file for A97 to install OK.

Look for a file called hatten.ttf
Change its name to say, hatten.old
Re-install a97.
Rename the file back to .ttf

Hi

I've done all that, but to no avail. I even uninstalled 2000 and 97 and tried to re-install 97 first, but the icons there are for 2000 version and it Access states that i must use filename in command line.

I even tried to open an existung A97 mdb file fron explorer, but it asks me to convert or open...just as though its MS Access 2000. I fear now that my registry has all kinds of rubbish in it referring to both versions.

I think you are getting two different issue confused.

The license issue is dealt with as I described.

But you appear to be expecting Access to know which version to use for each of your mdb files. It never will.
It is always the last version of ACcess that you used which will be used to try to open the next mdb file you click on.
When you have two versions of ACcess on your machine you have two choices in getting to the correct version. (A) open (the correct version of ) Access first and then open the database or (B) create a desktop shortcut for each of your mdb files which points to the correct version of msaccess.exe.
