Nim error adding client

Hi all,

I have a strange error trying to add a new client in a defined nim environment.

Using EZNIM "Add this system to a NIM environment"
here commes the error i've got:

0042-376 niminit: This command cannot be executed on a NIM master
unless the "is_alternate" attribute is specified.


As far as i know this system has never been defined as a client or master before, no /etc/niminfo file.


Any idea ?

I'm not sure about this problem, but it seems to have something to do with an "alternate NIM master" ...

Maybe there's an alternate master enabled in your NIM environment somewhere ?

-> check "smitty nim" -> "Perform NIM Administration Tasks" -> "Manage Alternate Master Environment" -> "Remove an Alternate Master" -> See if he finds anything -> Remove it if you're not using an alternate NIM master in your environment.

Also do a "man niminit" and search for "is_alternate". Maybe the help text there will give you a hint ...

No alternate master defined, i also had a look at the man pages as you said but nothing new.

i also tried to specify is_alternate=no

niminit -a name=VDG_BUSRVQUA -a pif_name=en0 -a cable_type=bnc -a master=sysnim is_alternate=no

I manualy made a /etc/niminfo file to try to reset nim config after but nothing change.

I found the solution

package bff package for nim master was installed

And in this case, NIM assumed to be only a master.
Package removed and configuration as client is ok
