Night Ring to Paging Horns?

Have a customer with a MICS that was just upgraded from 3.0 to 6.1.

After everything was set back up the customer mentions they had a night ring feature that made inbound calls ring over the paging horns in their shop at night.

I see the paging system, which is two self-powered horns punched down on the page output, not the external page output (what's the difference?), and there is nothing connected to the AUX ringer output.

Question is how are they getting the ring over page, is it an option in 6.1 that I'm missing?

Thanks,

Dave

The aux ring port is just a dry contact closure that's used for activating an after market ringer or chime. It does not put out any ringing voltage or sound of any kind.

Typically this scenario would require a stand alone paging control unit. Most paging control units have provisions that allow for ringing or music to be piped in over the paging horns.

A Valcom rep may be able to give you some advice and more details.

Thanks for you input about the Aux output, it helped in my trouble shooting.

I located 3 self powered horns, two were Bogen and a third was a Valcom. Someone (besides you) mention Valcom's sometimes have a 2nd input for ring over page so I traced the 24 volt power supply and the page output to the same cable pair and discovered a third pair connected to the same cable. I then trace that pair back and sure enough it was connected to the output of an ATA which was being used to ring the horn.

The initial confusion was the fact that the customer said the ring was on all three horns when in fact it was only the Valcom. I called the ATA and it rang in the shop.

Then it was a simply task of programming the ATA extension into a ring group to ring at the required (scheduled) times.

Hope this helps others.

Thanks,

Dave
