Here is a nice effect that I have been playing with for a long while now but I thought I would share with those who don't yet know it...
The basic one runs like this...
- Start with a plain black background image size somewhere around 500x500 (or whatever you fancy!).
- Take your airbrush tool and set the size to somewhere in the 60's, hardness in the 10's, opacity around 11, step 25 and density 100.
- Now click on your foreground colour and select a mid to bright red (from the middle right of the square colour selection thing).
- Draw a shape on your page. It can be any kind of shape but try starting with something simple, like a comet shape (i.e.: a ball with a tail). (It should be a v.dim red at the moment...)
- Click on the foreground colour again and move the little circle in the colour wheel round to the left until you have a reddy orange.
- Now carefully redraw over your shape but leave a tiny gap around the edge (It should still be fairly dim).
- Go for the foreground colour again and move the wheel round to an orange and then an orange/yellow and finally a bright yellow; each time re-drawing the shape, each time getting further towards the center (i.e.: leaving a bigger gap).
- As a final touch select white and just highlight the bits of the flame you want really bright and paint them).
If you've done it right it should look rather nice by now!
(You can also make a v. nice effect by then applying the swirl thing to this).
Just play around with the idea and you can get some rather stunning effects; it's a starting point anyway!
If anyone is remotely interested but can't figure out what I'm talking about in this post, let me know and I'll put a tutorial or some finished pictures somewhere or other!
=)
