Hi,

It is embarresing(...) tow nic are not communicating

I have now a very simple setup
w2k server (all working very fine)
1 xp client
w2k : Realtek RTL8139(A/B/C/8130) PCI Fast Ethernet NIC
xp : 3com 3c900b tpo (10 full duplex)

on both cards i forced 10 full duplex
cabels and switch are cheked, i even connected them with a crosscable.

Both cards worked fine until upgrade the network new install server and upgrade win98 client to xp pro (both working fine

when you guy would want to help many thanks in advance

"...two NIC's are not communicating..."

Can you ping the loopback (127.0.0.1) on each card?

I'm sure that you have checked your IP address configuration and verified that you are on the same subnet, right?

pinging...

both very ok

ipconfig server:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

xp client:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

that seams ok?

what next?

When trouble shooting always start out with the physical first.
1. when connecting 2 pc's directly together you use a crossover cable. Unless you have a a hub or switch between then use a straight through.
2. check both cables and make sure they are made properly. make sure cables are plugged in and your getting a link light on both nics
3. give each pc a static ip at first. then if you can ping and your server is set up for dhcp set each pc to dhcp except server. leave it static.
4. from each pc try and ping its own ip. then go from there.
5. you might try disabling and enabling the nic's
cant
6. worse comes to worse try the xp networking wizard.
cant think of much else right now. hope this helps

quell
thanks

agree fully

i gave them both static ip's, tested the cable's and at last bought a new tested crosscable.

ping localhost on boht ok

does this someting means: (i don't think so wins no importend now? when they are connected the dhcp will set that ok

but i am really lost

the header form ipconfig /all:
server:
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

xp pro:

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

WINS is used for the 98 pc's. Dont need it for xp
The headers you posted are normal. Did you try the networking wizard with XP?

netsetup does not work under\with w2k...
on both machines is btw zonealarm installed, but offcourse now disabeld

might try unistalling it...reinstall it later when you need it.

do this tomorrow. it late here. i am going to sleep.

Problem solved, the answer is even more embarresing..

reset the switch and they are talking...
