According to my ISP, Blueyonder, the internet will only work on certain NICs - so if u install a new NIC, the "MAC" address of this NIC must be registered before it can be used.

If I reformat and reinstall Windows XP Pro (for complicated reasons), will the MAC address for my NIC card stay the same?? Or is it something Windows assigns so It'll change??

Any help appreciated.

The MAC adress in in the NIC card it self . Not in windows so reinstalling shouln't be a problem.

The MAC address is hard-coded into the nic card.
Changing any software won't change the MAC address.

Changing nic cards (putting a different one in your pc) will mean that the MAC address changed.
