Newbie Trigger Question

Thanks in advance for your help. I am starting to play around with SQL databases via a SQL Server moving up from Access 2000. I am trying to figure out how to have the table index key automatically generated similar to the AutoNumber field type in access.

In searching the web I assume I need to have this done in a trigger but I have no idea where to start.

Any help would be appreciated

what you are looking for is an identity

create table abc(id int identity, somecolumn varchar(49))

insert abc values('123')
insert abc values('12345')

select * from abc
