We have just purchased Windows 2003 server. I work in a small company and our main goal for the server will be used for file sharing purposes. Our current newtwork consists of the following:

Sonic Wall to Ethernet Switch:
4 PCs
4 Macs
5 HP printers

all connected to the Lan.

I have installed the server, and my first step was to define the printers, which I have done and set them up as shared. The problem I am having is that the PC workstations
running XP, does not see the shared printers via the server when I use the add printer wizard via the client.

Any thoughts,
Mike

Have you configured active directory and made the server a domain controller?

If so then you can list the shared printers in active directory.

Thanks for the reply. Basicallly, i have no experience with 2003. I basically went through the orginally setup.

I am not sure if I set up/configured an active directory and made the server a domain controller.

How can one tell.

Thanks for your patience,
Mike

Well, you know that box that comes up asking you to setup your server?? well.. you go to "add services" "configure server" or something.. well if you click on it, you want to install "active directory users and computers, you also want to install DNS"

you dont need it but it will help.. i suggest running a file server.. that’s how you will be able to share printers in 2003.. post back with what you get from this.. and i will further assist you..
