I've been working with Sun/Solaris for the past ten years and now have been thrust into the Wintel world. Anyone know of good sources for unix guys that can get me on the fast track to understanding w2k server? I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks and there sure seems to be a lot of problems. Is this OS stable enough for enterprise apps or will I spend all my time doing admin and installing patches to fix bugs? What about remote access and booting from other machines? Security seems very complex and a bear to admin. I thought this new OS was suppose to be easy to use. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

First Yes W2K is very stable i run 3 servers and never a problem out of the OS, now the ERP software causes me problems about Once a month on one Server but the others have been running now 13 months without a reboot.

Security is a bit more complex than the Unix world out of the box.

Acitive Directory is allot like Novel's Directory services which is a pain to setup and maintain.

On the bug issues you need to start hanging out on the Unix web forms. Specail thought If you go and read eweeks hacker challenge the last couple of years it's been hacked via a Unix security hole.

Most of the issues dicussed on the Forum are not that serouis of a problem and fixed in a couple of days.
