Hi all,
I have just installed Crystal Report(CR) 8 in my PC and assigned by the company to evaluate this product to use reporting solution for our clients.

I have basic question :
After I designed a report, now having CR RPT file, using MSSQL-2000 Database, I want to 'deploy' it to the end users within the networks.
Do I have to install CR into each user's PC that use the Report? , OR Only have to intalled CR in the server, or how ??

Thank you very much,
Krist.

To run reports against the SQL Server they would need CR Pro, not standard. I have seen users run CR from a network, but you would have to check with Seagate on licensing issues. I have gotten mixed messages.

You can use compiled reports, which allows the user t run the report for free without changing it. Although Seagate has been threatening to take away this feature, it is still available for download. See the FAQ on Compiled reports in this forum.

There is web deployment, which can be fairly involved and expensive. There is also INFO/Enterprise administrative package, which is even more expensive. There are some Crystal partners in the forum that may weigh in on this. Ken Hamady

You can use Crystal Info, Enterprise, or a custome built app to distriute the reports. We use a custom Deplhi app to managage our report distribution.

If you are using CR version 8.0 or 8.0 you do NOT have to install CR. Depending whether you use the Report Designer Component (from VB) or the Crystal OCX it really comes down to deploying the proper DLL's with your application. You can deploy an application onto a machine that does not have Crystal installed.
