Newbie- Need to display default value for new record

I want the default value for a new record field to be the previous record's data for that field. Example-- A clerk will have to enter 200 records at a time. If some of the fields' data remain contant with only a few variations then it would be easier to start a new record with the data from some of the previous fields already inserted. I hope this is clear. Thanks...
