I am a real newbie so please don't flame me!

I am using the template for inventory control system database in access 2000.
My problem is :

I am able to use an unbound field to get the sum of a subform total but don't know how to SAVE the value into a field.
I have a parent and subform, the subform has a qty field and in the footer of the form there is a field to calculate the sum. I need to pass that sum to a field in the parent table.

Please help. I can do it in a setvalue macro, but I don't know which control to set it to.. I need the value to be saved as the calculated field is updated or EVEN when the record is closed.. doesn't matter just as long as the value is saved in my parent table.
Thanks

hi

for the calculated field set the "after update" event to the name of the macro.

This should work

Thank Mick,

I understand that I would need to set the macro on a "after update" event. Problem is my update is taking place in the SUBFORM and when I set it in the unit qty field, I get and "automation" error?. I tried to set it in the FORM but got another error that the form may be a read only etc. error..I am stuck please help!
I guess I need either a better macro or the correct place to set the macro.

Thanx.

Hi:

Try this:

On the main form create a text box and the control source equals the value of the control in your subform.

When the data in this text control is updated, then you fire whatever macro or vb code to update whatever is required
