Newbie confused about installing software

Today is my first day using Citrix (presentation server 3.0 on windows 2000). I'm confused about install mode. I have to install the windows updates. Does presentation server 3.0 use install mode like the older versions of Citrix? If so, do I have to use install mode to install updates, or is it just for applications? This is a spare server I'm using or else I wouldn't dare do this without training.
Any good links to get me up to speed quickly?
Thanks.

Hiya ChuckCasey,

The general rule is that for ANY installation you need to set the machine into install mode (change user /install, same as you've used before) Some applications, most notably Microsoft ones, will fail to install if the machine isn't in install mode.

Install mode is designed for applications which are likely to be used by more than one user, so i guess technically you might not need it for updates, but there will almost certainly be some which make 'user' changes, so I'd still go with install mode before installing anything on a Citrix box.

As for links, without being funny, the Citrix Admin guides and Advanced concepts guides are actually pretty good and, especially if you're new to Citrix, are worth having around for reference.

I find myself referring to them quite a bit.

hope this helps a bit,

Chris
