Hi,
We have a user who is leaving for a year and we have someone else replacing her.

I was told that she is going to use the same user account as the person leaving, but they want her to have her own email address plus the other user's emails.

But that new user also have to appear in the GAL.

I added a new SMTP email address to the user leaving, and create a contact in the AD and point it to that email address.

But that contact doesn't show up in GAL (I previewed the GAL content on the exchange server). The GAL settings are set to include contacts in our GAL.

It's been over 24h since I created that contact.

The new user has to use the old user network account, get that old user emails and her new ones in the same mailbox.
We user Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2000 mixed mode network.

Renaming the old user's account is not an option either.

Any other ideas?

Thank you,
Francois

Why isn't renaming the account an option? There is nothing in your post to say that it isn't.
Rename the account to say the new name and wait a minute or two. Put the old users SMTP address back in there as a secondary one and get on with it for the year the person is going to be away.
Next year just rename it back and make sure the temp users SMTP address is left there as a secondary address.

Care to elaborate why a simple rename isn't an option? I'm sure you have a reason, you just haven't given a valid one yet.

I heard quite a few horror story about renaming an account.

I talked about this with other co-workers and they said that they already did it without problems.

let's hope I have the same luck that they had.

Thanks,

You'll be fine.
If it's a new PC you will be ok. If it's the same ad logon on the same PC you'll want to refresh the mapi profile.
