I am a new user and would like to know if you can set an onclick event on the CFSELECT tag. I would like to be able to update the query in the select box by clicking it.

as far as i know, events are only supported by HTML tags - not cf tags, ie catching an event in a cfselect won't work - did you try ? what does it say ?
you can replace the cfselect with a select, it's more compliant, and easiest, and i developped huge cf apps without having to use those weird cfforms tags
