Let me preface this by saying I am a total newbie, and your mercy and assistance is appreciated.

I have installed ColdFusion MX, HomeSite+ 5.5, SQL Server 2005, and IIS on my XP Home Laptop (I used a workaround to get IIS running on xp home).

I am trying to learn cf, but I cannot get the RDS connection in homesite to work.

I honestly know nothing about rds connections, and I can't find a good beginners guide anywhere. Anyway, here is my problem:

I have tried a variety of settings for the RDS connection, but everytime I get the "The connection to the server cannot be established" message.

Please help!

I think what you are trying to do is connect to your local server. To do this

Goto options > settings > browse > development mappings > Debug start tab.
In debug on RDS server choose add RDS server

Your port needs to be 80
hostname 127.0.0.1
Description localhost

If you go into you RDS you should see it set up as localhost

Hope this helps
Andy
