Hi Guys, I'm new to clusters. If I want to restart two servers in a cluster, do I have to follow a special procedure? Can't I just click the Shutdown button and start each server up?

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

I'd start with the passive node, so that the services only have to fail over once.

Thanks!

Also just another one. If I where to make any changes to the server (settings, users, etc.), is it proper to start the changes at the passive node then shut down the passive node? Then do the changes in the active node then shut it down as well? Then UP the active node, after which, UP the passive node?

Nodes should only be shut down if the settings change that you made requires a restart. If a restart is required then windows will tell you.

If you make a settings change that requires a restart then do the passive node, wait for it to come back up. Then fail the cluster over to the passive node. Then do what was the active node, and restart it. You can then fail back if you'd like. There shouldn't be any need to fail back at this point however.

The point of the cluster is that there is as little down time as possible. Taking both nodes down defeates the purpose of the having the cluster.
