New to c++ have a few questions

I am new to c++ and I have been playing with it for a wile. I understand the basics (most of them) because I have been programming Perl for many years not. So I have these books and they do teach the basics well but I want to create some real (trial) programs. Here is what I am trying to do. I have been looking for examples on how to edit the registry with c++ or how to get file information with c++. Where can I get examples to learn or information to do real programming administration?
