We currently have a Win2k SQL Server and would like to upgrade it or a new server with Terminal Services. We would be using Win2k3 Server.

Can we set it up so that we can have Terminal Services and the old SQL Database accessed on the same server?

Some people outside would access the database using Terminal Services and in house people could use Access 2003 to get to the same database?

Will this cause problems?

No, I wouldn't expect it to cause problems except when it comes to memory. You should install extra RAM and then change how SQL uses memory so that it doesn't take 90% of what's available. If you are currently using 512mb, for example, you should upgrade it to a gig of RAM and then lock the SQL Ram usage at 638mb or so, leaving the rest of the RAM to handle terminal connections.

The problem is in how you think you will directly access the server with Terminal Services. What sort of client application will you use to pull data? Will you install Access 2003 on the server? I wouldn't. Will your terminal users use SQL Query Analyzer to pull result sets? Not a good idea either.

What are your core reasons for upgrading? You might just leave your server as it is and build a new system that you would use to host Terminal Server connections and install Access 2003 on it so that remote users could use Access in the same way that in-house people do.
