Hi there,

We will soon be setting up a new office in a different region and the hardware for the new site will match our existing kit, s8700’s G650i’s. On the existing system we have both IP and TDM functionality. The new site will also run as an IP platform. My question is, what is required to establish a pure IP connection between the two offices? We have the capacity in the cabinets to add more MedPro cards.

cmcshane,

yes, in newer systems connectivity between port networks is done only via ip. no choice. we're already living in bright future, enjoy it.

I'm guessing you're not refering to the Control of the Port Network but actual call volume between the sites. For this you just need CLAN boards on both sides. You'll also need to make sure you have DSP resources on both side. If thats medpro resources or the built in DSP of a media gateway, either way it needs to be a sufficient pool of resources for whatever type of calls you intend to VoIP ofthat link.

You can take advantage of Hairpinning/Shuffling to minimize DSP resources on IP station to IP station calls but you still need a DSP resource to setup the call. The resource is only unsed momentarily and gets released back into the pool unless the call is connecting to a TDM endpoint/trunk.
