Ok, this is a long questions or questions. I'm replacing an old network that only has 6 workstations. I've ordered a Dell Power Edge 600SC with 512 memory and two 18 GB SCSI hard drives with tape backup. The os will be windows 2000 server and the workstations will be Dell Optiplex 260 1.8 ghz with 512 memory and 40 gb hard drives. The os on these will be Windows 2000 Pro. Now for the questions.
1) How hard is it to setup five of the six computers to use only one printer? The sixth needs its own.
2) I have just ordered ADSL. Can I install this on the server so that certain workstations can access? And if so, Do I need an additional Nic card on the server or will it connect through the switch/hub?
3) I also have another office that is located thirty miles away and understand that if I have internet access there that I should be able to connect to my network over the internet. How?
I guess thats what is confusing me the most. Afterall I'm supposed to be an investigator not a network guru...

jaloc,

I can attempt to answer #1 and #3. #1 is definitely possible. first of all the help on Server 2000 is actually very helpful unlike its predecessors. I can only lead you in the right direction. You need to add a printer or two in your case to your domain controller if your in a domain or else just to your workgroup. then you can make a static map to the printer from there or you can just add the printer(s) to each comp. [to find add printer go to settings, control panel, printers]
#3 You need to create a vpn(virtual private network). Hint: use PPTP; very few people have figured out how to work L2TP.

let me know if you need more detailed information.
