The company that I work for is replacing the NT 4.0 server with a new one. I'm looking into several models from different makers (Dell, Etc) and was wanting to know if anyone had any good recommendations? I like to stick with a Windows OS since i'm familiar with it. Also the server will only have to accomdate 20 users for file, print and a small sql DB. Thanks in advance

20 users? Buy 2 decent clones, you'll have a spare PC to test with as well for less then the price of a full blown server

The users use a dos based app right now that hooks up to the DB to do there accounting, etc. It will come to an end once the website if fully finished.

I have similar offices. Some things to consider...One is that you are currently replacing Windows NT machines. It tells me that the company tends to hold onto equipment for a while. I think your though of going with Dell is a good one. I have a couple customers with about the same profile. I've installed the Poweredge 2600 with a raid array. I usually recommend a warranty that suits the needs of the company. My experience with Dell and warranties has been pretty good.

The company holds on to hardware/software for a loooong time. I upgraded the corporate and lease offices client machines from NT 4 to 2000. Like to buy all new desktops but that will probably be awhile. Is there any reliable software to transfer the user accounts, printers, etc from the old NT server to the new one? I was thinking of keeping the same naming convention going and prep the new server off line till i was ready and just demote the old one. Disconnect from the network and bring the new one online and workout the bugs after work hours.
