We have added a 3rd server to our small site. When I start EM on my PC, the original servers go green in a second. It takes about 5 more seconds for the new server to go green.

The only difference between the servers is that the new one is running on Win 2K and is much bigger and the data is stored on a SAN. I've compared the SQL Server configurations and they are the same.

Does this indicate that I might have a problem, or is this normal?

Thanks - Marc

I don't think the behavior indicates a problem. You may want to make sure you are connecting to each server using the same net-library. You may note differences in connection speed between Named Pipes and TCP/IP, for example. If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and thread183-468158.

How much bigger? I have two virtual servers, one has a 192 GB database and the other has a 60 GB database. It takes me longer to connect to the 192GB one than it does for the 60 GB one.

Everything is the same with the two servers except for the size of the main database (both databases are exactly the same structure).
