new pc has problems

I have been running xp pro on a shuttle board, xp 2000 processor and 512mb ram, i recently bought a Biostar board, xp 3000, and another 512 of ram. Fresh install, and here are the symptoms.
Some programs install or uninstall VERY slowly. Like the uninstaller for norton antivirus takes about 10 minutes.
Nero won't burn ISO's and has problems with most burning tasks, yet other burning software is fine.
I use a USB KVM switch to switch between 3 pc's and sometimes this one will not pick the usb mouse and keyboard back up after switching away and then back.
I installed a photo program that I always used before and it took like 15 minutes, and said it was successful, but the app will not run, gives an error.
All win updates are current.
Any clues?

The slowness issue, it would help if you reported the error from the installation of the "photo program" you mention above.

well it's only been 10 minutes but that file seems to have helped. How would i find a similar fix for win2k pro?

Ok, so far your fix seems to have done the trick with the usb problem. The pc is also much faster now and here's what I did.
Uninstalled norton corporate edition.
Ran a reg cleaner to get rid of anything to do with symantec, ran reg cleaner to get rid of all useless keys.
Installed AVG free edition antivirus.
Seems to have something to do with symantec products.
