Hey; it's been awhile since I've done an NT install; I'm trying to get NT4.0 Server running at home.

Everything's hunky dory except it won't recognize my network card.

I have the correct driver; going to Control Panel --> Network, then adding an adapter and feeding it the driver, it responds:

Network card is not present in system

Any clue what I should do next? But a 3-com? Hopefully there'a a cheaper awnser.

(The card I'm trying to install is a D-Ling DFE-530TX)

Thanks in advance for any help!

H-m-m, have you looked for hardware conflicts (IRQ/MEM/IO)?

No, I haven't... sorry; I've been on 98 for a long time and have forgotten how to do much of anything with NT... If you could gimme a general troubleshooting process for NT, I could look up the details. Thanks a bunch!

Okies... I read a bit, & ran WinNT Diagnostics. I have no Resource conflicts, and the NIC card doesn't show up anywhere (Resources tab or the Devices tab)..

James,

Have you installed any Service Packs yet, if not I would recommend at least Service Pack 4 and also going to the manufacturer of the nics website to make sure you have the most current drivers.

Ack; I think I've found the problem.

I made a false assumption. The card had been performing well on a 98 install using a driver for a different card.

Instead of looking at the card to determine what it was, I assumed it was what win98 reported it as (A D-Link 530tx). It's actually a Realtek RTL8139.

We'll see if the new driver fixes everything :)

Thanks for your time; I appreciate the help.

I've used this particular card in the past. I received the message that it wasn't a supported NIC at install time .... but
it worked. I did finally replace it with a 3COM
