New mail notification with outlook/exch 2003 1

Hi,

I'm about to move my company over to Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 for mail services.

In previous versions of Outlook, it was possible to set a new mail notification which was just a Message Box saying

"New mail has arrived. Would you like to read it now?"

This was good for me, because it stayed there permenantly, until the user clicked OK, so that if anyone was to come back to their computer after being somewhere else, as they often do, they would know straight away to read their new mail.

With Outlook 2003, as far as I can tell, you can only set the notification to stay there for up to 30 seconds. This doesn't really help if the person is away from their computer at the time.

I know that there will be a small envelope icon in the system tray, but I can't rely on all the users of the system to notice that. Especially since they would normally ignore the system tray as it contains icons they have no idea about.

This might seem a little picky, but some of our customers prefer to use e-mail to send in orders and quote requests, expecting a quick reply. If an e-mail goes un-noticed for a day, it's not good.

Rather than asking a specific question, I thought I'd just explain my problem in the hope someone will know some sort of solution.

I had a quick thought about using some sort of POP3 checker to check the exchange server via POP, but that's really sloppy, and I don't like the idea.

Hi,

You can set up a client rule that does the following.

Check mail when it arrives, where my name is in the To: or cc: field, display a message saying "You Have Mail".

This will bring up a box saying "You Have Mail". It will also list the subject line of every mail recieved in a list box. You then have to click ok to get rid of it.
