Hi Hope you can help we are going to install SQL 2005 and Exchange 2007. We currently don't have any previous version on our domain so it is going to be completly new to us. I have a few questions

1. Do I need ot install SQL 1st

2. I dont currently have any 64 bit operating systems or hardware but have budget for 1 new machine. I have 2 dual Zeon 2003 servers one of which I will put SQL on. What I have read is that I need a minimum of two servers to run Exchange 2007 on am I correct? one for the Edge transport role and the other for all the other roles. Do I need a 64 bit system for both or can I run the Edge transport role on an old 32 bit 2003 server and if so does it need to be of a hight spec?

1. Different boxes that won't talk to each other so it makes no difference.
2a. That means you will only be able to put SQL 2005 32 bit on it so you won't take advantage of the 70% reduction in I/O that the 64 bit offers.
2b. No, you can run Ex2007 on one server and have your firewall running third party apps for edge stuff.
2c. You need a 64 bit box for Ex2007. If you get Edge you need another 64 bit box and another copy of Exchange.

I'll add that an Edge server is not required. It's recommended, but not required. But all Exchange 2007 installations need to be on 64bit machines.
