New install: Data source name not found and no default driver ...

Received error in the log: Data source name not found and no default driver specified

This occurred when installing the developer edition of SQL Server. The machine is setup with Japanese regional settings and previously had an instance of MSDE before. MSDE has been removed and nothing appears in the add/remove program listing of apps.

You might want to check in Windows Explorer and the Registry (Back this up before you start exploring it) to make sure everything got removed. I don't have personal experience with this, but I've heard that MSDE doesn't uninstall completely and cleanly.
