Hi all

I have installed a Desktop Evo D330 P4 2.8 512MB RAM XP PRo

Machine worked with no problems out of the box, but after the windows updates were added, the intel DSL modem was removed the machine seems to have a long delay in starting up.

I have seen this before in other machines. The PC has an onboard NIC and I think some how this is the cause. The NIC is used to link to the plotter so it is needed.

Whats the best tool for looking at whats happening other than the event viewer which does show the time delays but not what causing them.

The machine seems able to repsond within a few seconds of the deskop appearing.

But it takes 20-30 seconds for a the reminaing icons to populate the task bar.

The machine is waiting to hear a response from a DHCP server (which of course will never happen).

Examine your TCP/IP Properties with Ipconfig /all. Then set that APIA address obtained as a static IP under your TCP/IP properties sheet.
