You did a lot of unnecessary work, but you didn't know that .
Symantec created two files a few years ago that does the same thing, but much more simply. They're called cegetter.bat and cescript. This combination of files (which are quite small) automatically downloads the latest definition file (navup.exe), extracts it, moves it to the SAV folder (it won't replace a file with the same name), and deletes the downloaded file. I modified it so that it deletes the extracted file in the event that the downloaded file is not newer than what's on the system. I use the AT command to schedule the batch file to run every half hour.
Same idea different way... I can't think of it right now.. but there was a reason I picked xdbdown over cegetter.. in any case its modifying a premade script and then scheduling accordingly.
I figured I would post the faq because there are still many people that are happy with the once a week update.. and thats just scary
