I have one E2k server which is working fine, I have installed another E2k server it is in the same routing group, I just moved one mailbox onto the new server and I can access the mail ok but cant send or receive any new mail. The smtp connector is in a state retry, I have tried forcing the connection but still no mail flow. On the 1st E2k box I had to add a new smtp virtual server for my Internet connection so the default SNMP virtual server is disabled (If I start it I get routing loops)

Any Ideas?

What are the NDR's with the default virtual server running? Don't add connectors they just complicate things. Dan

No NDR's the messages disappear from the outlook outbox ok and sit on the server. The queues under the default smtp server on the new e2k box are in a retry state, If I enumerate the messages I can see them all in the queue.

I have just had some messages back saying DO not resend there has been a message delay. Am I right in thinking that the mail is transfered between the 2 Default smtp virtual servers? I used the winroute tool and it connected ok and showed lots of info.

Winroute will show you how it is being handled.

I would remove the connector and go from there. Dan

I created another SMTP virual server and connector on the original server because it needs to connect using 7025/8025 ports to a smart host. This provides all of the Internet mail so I cant delete it. If I start the original server default SMTP server and send internet mail I get NDR saying it bounces between servers. Since the Original server has the MSMAIl & Dirsynch connector plus the SMTP Internet connector (which are all seen by the new server) do I need just to set up the same connector types on the new server or should it sort itself out. I think the problem is with the change in SMTP port numbers?

Nah you are causing a loop. Exchange doesn't like that.

Basically something tells it to send to the other server and it says the user is on the other one. Thus a loop. Dan

I need the other internet virtual server/connector it is configured for * on the address tab, on the default virtual server how can I stop the loop occuring? Do I need more than connector to pass traffic to the msmail and internet?

Are there any technotes or info on configuring or passing traffic within a routing group?

P.S Thanks for your help

I'm missing the question.

Can you explain how the servers need to talk and how they need to send to the internet. With that I could answer the question. Dan

The new e2k server needs to talk to the exisiting msmail service, the exisiting e2k server and the internet

One E2k server exists with msmail, dirsynch and smtp (internet)connector all working, I introduce a new e2k server no mail flows from the new e2k server to anywhere else, Do I have to set up msmail, dirsynch, smtp connectors for the new e2k server.

Thanks

E2k will talk to E2k without any connectors.

Can the new E2k server users send to each other?

Also you really only need one Virtual Server. And connectors take priority over virtual servers. Dan

The new(2) e2k server cant send to the first(1) e2k server, if I start the default smtp virtual server on e2k(1) they can talk, the problem then is the internet mail on e2k(1) then bounces, and I get messages as below.

A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients. Contact your administrator.

internet mail is not possible from e2k(2) it just sits in the queue using message tracking the categorizer is the last thing tracked.
