We are going to be changing our domain name to something else. We will want to run both of the domain names at the same time for a few months until we feel people are off not using the old one.

Do we just need to add the new Domain name in our external DNS and point it to our website?

Then when we ready to stop the old domain name just delete the old doamin name from the external DNS?

I know for email we just create a new MX record and point it to our exchange IP and in exchange add the new domain name in the Recepient policy.

Anything that I missed?

You got it. That's assuming that your website isn't hosted with a provider that puts multiple websites on a single IP and then uses host headers to route between them. If that was the case, your new domain name wouldn't work when pointed at the same IP as the old one. But if it works...then you don't have a problem! If it doesn't work, you'd just go into your web site control panel and add the new name " to the list of "names" that the site will respond to.
