I run a laptop on two networks. At work I set it up on a domain and it uses dhcp etc. At home my network uses static ips. I was able for a while to just select "this computer" at logon, not change any settings and I could use the internet sharing at home.

Then all of a sudden I was not able to connect - nothing changed in the laptop or with my home network settings. I now need to change the ip to the static structure which is ok but a bit painful.

On the ip settings properties it has an alternative config option - so I tested my work and home settings in both places but this didnt work. How do you get this feature to work?

It is very confusing. Can anyone explain this to me?

I just saw an earlier thread about the same thing - except that the dhcp situation is reversed.

At present my home numbers are set up as the alternative configuration, which is what the microsoft article #283676 suggested.

Next time I will check whether I undid the proxy server info which we use at work.
