Hi there,

I have a G4 w/ OS X and a PC 1.3 GHz running Windows ME connected to the internet via a Speedstream SS2604.

I am attempting to share files with one another. I set the Mac to share everything. In my network properties on the PC, I set up: (1) Client for Microsoft Networks and File and (2) Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks. I also set up the File and Print Sharing for the Microsoft Networks Client. I had to set a Workgroup name also.

In Windows Explorer I see another computer, "Mac", under but when I tried to access it, I cannot...it tells me
"\\Mac is not accessible. No permission to access resource"
Also, the "Mac" is under a different workgroup than my PC in Windows Explorer, one that is just called "Workgroup".

Is what I am attempting possible? Any advice?

Matt

I have a g4 osX mac sharing with my winME computer.

OSX
1. If you have firewall turned on, make sure it allows file sharing.
2. Under Sharing>Network ensure that personal file sharing and windows file sharing are both selected.
3. Under network give your mac an IP address of something like: 169.254.194.84 and a subnet of: 255.255.255.0
4. Make sure built-in ethernet or equivlent is selected

winME
1. under Control Panel>Network open TCP/IP for your ethernet card. set the IP to: 169.254.194.85 and a subnet mask of: 255.255.255.0
2. Ensure File and Print Sharing are enabled

p.s. i cannot see my Mac on the PC, but i enable FULL access to my HDD and then do it all from the Mac

Hope this helps.

Why not leave TCP/IP setup for the MAC and PC to access the internet but install the AppleTalk protocol to share files between the MAC and PC? In this way you can disable file and print sharing on the TCP/IP protocol and protect your computers from the internet.

Thanks to both of you for the advice. I got it working on the Mac end, and I am going to pursue the Appletalk advice.
