I'm running Networker 6.0.3 on AIX 4.3.3 right now. We've tried upgrading Networker three different times to various of the 6.1.x series, and every time we've had to roll back to 6.0.3 because the 6.1 stuff kept locking up.

We're looking at upgrading the machine to AIX 5 and so along with that, upgrade Networker to 7, but given our experience with upgrading it, I'm *extremely* leery of being a guinea pig.

Hi, though this thread is outdated, I submit my experiences with NetWorker 7.2 on AIX.

I migrated one of our 2 NetWorker servers from a FJSC Solaris to a pSeries machine last may.

HW: IBM p52 (9111-520), 2 x 1.65 GHz Power5, 4GB Mem
OS: AIX 5200-05
Legato: 7.2 (nw_7_2_LGTpa69733.Build.6)
Library: ADIC with AMU/DAS Management
Tapes: 4 x LTO-2, 1 x 3590E (SAN Attached)

In principle, the NetWorker Environment is running very fast and stable!

What I encounter occasionly are I/O errors on all the drives "nsrd: media warning: /dev/rmt5.1 opening: I/O error".
These errors are also logged into the AIX errorlog as "Tape Operation Error".

Because I have also FC-Link errors on FCS0 on reboot and FSCSI0/FSCSI1 errors when running enquire, I have opened supportcalls both to IBM and Legato (EMC).

IBM is investigating in FC-errormessages (command timeouts and name server rejects ).
Legato told me to install the Atape drivers on AIX.

Because I'm not sure if the Atape drivers on AIX are working with the ADIC Library, I'm trying to clear this topic.

regards, Martin

Hi there. I've had my Networker server at 7.1.2 for some time now, and it's been remarkably stable. Heck, nsrd is at 3 months uptime now - haven't had to do weekly restarts since the upgrade.

Since you are getting errors on your FCS devices at boot-time, I would suggest looking into your fiber equipment - can't really make any suggestions past that. You might also post your problem on the AIX forum.

I can't speak to whether Atape or atldd handle your equipment - I'm a 3590+3494 shop.

agreed. We upgraded networker from 6.1.3 to 7.2 as well as AIX from 4.3.3 to 5.2 on the same day, and networker has running very well since the upgrade.

norestore, can you access any of your tape drives, or just that one ? If only that one you may need to get that drive swapped out.
