Hello All,

I was wondering if anybody knew if the code for NW 7.2 will still work with SmartMedia 1.5? I realize that this version is not "officially" supported; however, I was just wondering if these to apps would still work in conjunction from a operational standpoint. I have been working with GEMS SmartMedia and NetWorker on a P3000 Quantum jukebox for over 3 years and like the way it works. Additionally, I don't want to pay the additional money required to migrate to AlphaStor. I have 2 NetWorker Servers that are currently running on Solaris sparc systems and are at NetWorker 6.1.3 now. I am planning on upgrading them to 7.2 and this would be the first hurdle to get past.

Thanks!

I expect it will work as the concept didi not change at all. But as you said, the compatibility with SM has not been tested and is not supported.

Would you happen to know how hard it would be to remove SM altogether? We installed SM back when NW 5.5 was out and that version didn't support zones. I have 2 NW servers sharing a P3000 jukebox. Server 1 has SCSI connections to 4 DLT7000 drives and Server 2 has SCSI connections to 8 DLT7000 drives.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, i have never worked with SM/AlphaStor but if the usual NW concept has been followed you just have to delete the software and the databases.

But the reason is not clear for me. NW still does not allow sharing a jukebox without SM/AlphaStor among multiple data zones unless you have a STL (Silo Type Library) like DAS or ACSLS silos.

Actually, we are going to look into "Library Partitioning" from Quantum to see if we can slice our Jukebox (P3000) up and then jbconfig the devices. If not, we are going to go ahead and look at setting up 1 server w/Storage Node. Lastly, we might be able to get another P3000 from another site and all these other problems would go away really quick. Either way, I think that we will able to make this work.

Thanks
