I have a database on a network with a backend one machine and a front end on each machine that is on the network.

For security reasons I want the folder with the backend in to a have a sharing password, but when I set one and try to open up a front end on a different machine it says that the database can' be opened as it already opened exclusively by another user when it is not.

If the password is not there then the database works fine. Is there a setting which I can change in order so that I can allow a shared folder full access password to be there and for me to open the frontends.

Any help will be great

thanks

permissions are tricky.

I have an on going issue here, where the CAD dept does not want anyone beside them being able to change or save a drawing.
But an Access database resides on their server that other depts need to edit and change.
The fix I found was too put all users who need to change the database in the "Domain Admins" group.

Then assign that folder "Change permissions" only for the domain admins
