I'm trying to network an xp pc w/ a 2000 pc. For the time being, I don't have internet access (waiting on cable). Until then, I'm want to share files on the 2000 machine w/ the xp machine. I have them connected w/ a cross over cable, but both machines have the system tray icon saying the network cable is unplugged. Both machines can ping their own network card.
Thanks in advance for the help!

jeremy,

This should be straightforward. Are you sure it is a crossover cable> Look at the ends of the cable and match the color sequences of the wires. They should be different. If not, it isn't a crossover cable.
