Hi all,

I was thinking about using teaming with the in-built Realtek ethernet port with the D-link Wireless adapter on my laptop.
I have a DSL modem which provides both Wireless and ethernet interfaces. Is there any teaming s/w available for XP?
Is this something doable?

Thanks in advance

May seem like a daft question, but why?

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

So I can get more bandwidth using the 2 interfaces at the same time and utilizing wireless interface which is ideal.

Does your Modem or Router Support it? Same question about your installed Network Adapters? I have seen some Google reports concerning Network Teaming, but they seem to refer to HP or Nvidia Cards.

you mention you are using a DSL modem....
do you have connection bigger than 100MB.. if not, then it would not matter...
ie. you get 5mb connection from your ISP, even if you connected with a 1000mb card, you would still only get 5mb from the internet.....

Yeah, you are right. It wouldn't matter as I have 5mb ISP connection.

Does anyone know what's the effective and actual speed one can get on 100Mbps network interface?

What does the network utilization indicates in the task manager 1 or 2% means?

The Networking and Users pages are new to the Task Managere. Briefly, the Networking page provides a scale showing the relative level of Local Area Connection traffic that the XP workstation you're working with is generating. By default, only 1% is shown. If the users you are working with are downloading many files and are working with many remote resources, the percentage of Local Area Connection will go up quickly. Figure 4 shows an example of the Networking page of the Windows Task Manager dialog box".

At home I have a network-attached storage device with a built-in 100Mbps router and at the moment I have my PC hooked up directly to it. At the weekend I upgraded the hard drive in the NAS so I had to back it up and restore it and during the restore process, with two simultaneous transfers of large files I was getting almost 100% utilisation. With a single transfer I was getting about 70% utilisation.

So it is do-able under certain conditions.
