I am trying to access a network share.
When I connect I get the username and password box to enter domain credentials

If I use DOMAIN_NETBIOS_NAME/username and password - It says logon unsuccesful..The user name you typed is the same as the user name you logged in with.

If I use FQDN/username and password - I am logged in with no problems..

This shows that there is some problem with DNS right..any help for me on this issue.

Thanks

Thanks for replying..
I forgot to include one more piece of the problem..

When I am in my LAN I do not have any issues whether it is with Netbios name or FQDN.

I am trying this from my home..I am connected via VPN to a juniper netscreen firewall at work and then I am trying to access the network share remotely and I face the problem.

To answer your question..I do not have any WINS server.

When you connect to the VPN at the office are you using your internal DNS server?

No..I am using my local comcast DNS server

If the machine is on the domain you would use ..

FQDN\username
password

If the machine isnt on a domain you would use ...

Machine_Name\username
password

So whats the problem?

I dont want users typing the whole FQDN/username..

So the simple way is to turn on juniper firewall settings to use the DNS of the domain when outside the network..Thanks Brian..I get it now.

If their machine is on the domain then they wont have to type the FQDN\username ... they would just merely use the username. I am sure there is a setting in the netscreen to assign the dns server along with the ip address.
